Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Colleagues,
With great pleasure, the Strategic Committee on Animal Research for Scientific Purposes of the University of Strasbourg and its partners will welcome you on April 16 from 1 to 5:30 pm for a symposium dedicated to the “culture of care in animal research”.
If we want to bring you together, it is because we share a common responsibility: to guarantee high-quality research while ensuring the well-being of the animals that make it possible.
In our laboratories, scientific rigor and ethics go hand in hand. A well-treated animal is a more reliable model, and caring for it also means improving the reproducibility and relevance of our results. A culture of care is more than just a regulatory obligation; it's a state of mind, a proactive approach that engages researchers, technicians, veterinarians, and animal care staff in ongoing reflection on our practices.
But what does this culture of care entail? How can it be integrated into day-to-day practice, from the design of experimental protocols to post-experiment monitoring? How can we innovate further to reduce the impact of our research on animals, while guaranteeing significant biomedical advances?
This symposium aims to encourage exchanges between disciplines and professions, share feedback, and discover innovative approaches to animal welfare. We'll hear experts discuss the 3R (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement), new alternative methods, environmental enrichment strategies, and advances in anesthesia and analgesia.
We have succeeded in bringing together six speakers for an already packed program, covering different aspects of this approach during this symposium.
Your participation in the symposium may be validated as part of your continuing education in animal experimentation. This validation is the responsibility of your “Personnel skills monitoring manager”.
By taking part in this day, we are affirming our commitment to responsible, rigorous, and respectful research. The culture of care is, above all, a collective dynamic that evolves with scientific discoveries and societal expectations.
We therefore invite you to take full advantage of these exchanges, ask your questions, compare your ideas, and leave with new perspectives for improving our practices.
Thank you all for your presence and your commitment. We wish you a symposium rich in discussion and progress.
